Catalonia Bans Bullfighting
The ban will take effect in 2012

Catalonian pariament voted a historic ban on bullfights. Catalonia is the second Spanish region after the Canary Islands and first on the mainland to abolish the corrida. FOUR PAWS commends the Catalonian parliament for their actions, and urge the remaining regions in Spain to ban this cruel 'sport'. Every year in Spain 13,300 bulls are killed in official bullfights only, whereas the total number of killed animals is three times as high. [more]
